Gallipoli is situated on the S.W. corner of the heel of Italy.....the Puglia region (POUILLES). It's historical center on the island is enchanting, with the castle built as always in a key position. Such a delightful surprise for us as we really knew very little of this region.
The waters around the island are so clear and turquoise with obviously a plentiful supply of fish, after seeing the number of trawlers in the ports. and well stocked fish market!
Taking advantage of a very windy, but gorgeous day, we walked through the warren of narrow streets and passages admiring the splendid maisons, ancient buildings, plentiful frescos, and beautiful churchs, especially the Cathedral (Duomo), built in the style of Lecce baroque.
Unfortunately, the 'new' town across the bridge is a bleak contrast.....concrete blocks etc...Dommage!
Have you ever had jelly fish blocking the water intake for the WC ?? We realised that we were surrounded by zillions of baby jelly fish, and sure enough one of of toilets was blocked by these undesirable creatures....poor Bruno had to open everything and find the solution.....luckily there were no other blockages!!
We thought the sand storms were bad enough in Sicily, but you should have seen our boat after yesterday's storm........a disaster area, so yet again we washed and scrubbed down!
We only had a max of 30 knots, but I am sure out in the Gulf it was much more.
