Especially, BON ANNIVERSAIRE! SULA....John and Nicky's wonderful Greek 'mother'.....stripy t shirt in photo above.
How privileged we were, to take advantage of Nicky and John's beach sunroof for our get together last evening... admiring our boats at anchor in the bay, plus , yet again, the incredible sunset...sailors and non sailors alike, we had a great time. Merci beaucoup to one and all..! Especially, BON ANNIVERSAIRE! SULA....John and Nicky's wonderful Greek 'mother'.....stripy t shirt in photo above.

Late morning, with dear friends, Barb & Con "BIGSKY' , I hiked up the hill in the sweltering heat...yes, we should have gone earlier!
After climbing a steep rocky path, we marched noisily (snakes?) through dry rough prickly scrub to finally arrive at the very top.... the highest point of the island overlooking our beautiful anchorage. Views to die for! In all directions.....but, we were impatient to return to our boats for a well deserved refreshing swim. Three seasons ago, I used to walk around the island often with Rosemary 'SEA DREAMS'.. wish you were here! More photos on our July/August 2012 blog. We were very happy to have as neighbours last night, Sonia & Remy from France, who we met recently in the marina at Thessaloniki. They sail on their 'ultra modern' and very rapid X yacht called MOEBIUS, photo below...we hope to cross paths again soon....a bientot! Safe sailing to Marmaris...bon vent! This is the cute summer cottage belonging the Mayor of Thessaloniki, who is usually only present on weekends..he obviously must be a busy man with all the current dramas! Fortunately the Greek banks have now reopened, but the locals are still restricted as to the amount of euros they can withdraw weekly.
Pacific Pearl is anchored in the bay facing the Mayor's land, which has in fact 3 cottages built in and around the olive and pine trees....just gorgeous! There are many houses in this area... on the island or along the mainland coast....built right on the water's edge...pieds dans l'eau! BARB & CON from Canada on board 'Pacific Pearl' for dinner last night....merci Bruno, delicious 'confit de canard' and the rest...!! BARB & CON S/Y 'BIGSKY' arrived a few days ago, after a horrendous rocky sail around Mt Athos..they are now fully appreciating the calm idyllic conditions in our favourite anchorage.
SALLY & TONY S/Y 'RON GLAS' with the pale blue hull and distinctive 'jonque' sails have family onboard and plan to remain also to take full advantage of this beautiful area ...SEE ABOVE PHOTO...WOW!. Below, SUE & CHRIS and their spacious catamaran 'NIMROD' popped in to say 'hi' with a delicious chilled bottle of 'bubbly' for us girls...merci beaucoup! They are continuing on south towards the Sporades before finally wintering also in Agios Nikolaos, Crete... with the above boats, we all wintered in Ragusa, Sicily a few years ago....Therefore, great to catch up! I am having an enjoyable time relooking our website, however, it will take time for me to be a 100% satisfied. Not bad, considering we are at anchor. Merci WIND internet connexion!
Very few sailing yachts around the area, mostly small runabouts, especially on Sundays. Not one 'gin palace' in sight (huge motor yacht)...thankfully. Maybe busier in August, but nothing in comparison with the other island groups. Every day we consider ourselves so fortunate to be anchored here taking advantage of this beautiful island and surrounding area. The cicadas are happily singing from very early in the morning until late at night....we can smell the scent from the rich green pine trees covering the coastline, even out at anchor, as usually a pleasant breeze blowing...but no meltemi...! The nights are completely tranquil, no loud music, as no bars close by, with tavernas further afield on the mainland coast. Water is a very acceptable 28+ degrees, clear and clean...lots of swimming on the daily programme. Every evening, we watch the incredibly stunning sunsets...different each day. Bruno is continuing with maintenance jobs in between devouring books and his afternoon siesta. It is very hot, it is Summer! Pure bliss! Such a great welcome back by Nicky and John....WE ARE CERTAINLY GOING TO ENJOY YOUR COMPANY THIS SUMMER..as 3 seasons ago....see back blogs July & August 2012..
Drinking BUBBLY on ELSA MAY with LORNA (birthday girl), AMANDA (visiting Lorna from Brisbane) & CAROLE....below Simon and Will beside Bruno.
WE ARE SO SO HAPPY TO BE HERE...JUST LOVE IT.. Obviously we are following very closely the never ending Greek saga....fortunately WIND internet connexion is working well. Seems ages since I have updated...for the past 10 days we have been settled into 'our' spot anchored off the lovely unspoilt island of Dhiaporos, north east side of the middle finger, Sinthonia. We spent nearly 2 wonderful months around the area a few years ago (see blogs July/August 2012) and promised ourselves that we would return....plus thrilled to catch up with Nicky & John, dear English friends who spend summer on the island every year. Very few sailing boats around, mostly just small runabouts, no huge hotels, not a 'gin palace' to be seen (huge motor boat)....perfect, including the weather conditions, water delicious! Other sailing friends are passing through...therefore a certain amount of socializing, as one does! Then we will all meet up in Crete for next winter. DRINKIES with Carole & Will 'MUSKRAT' , Sally & Tony 'RON GLAS' both anchored in next bay.
