But, in the meantime, a night at anchor to the north of Ormos Navarinou, under the ruins of Palaiokastro, surrounded by green fertile and cultivated hills.
The MOST FABULOUS FULL MOON after a BEAUTIFUL SUNSET in perfect conditions...plus, BBQ 'd fresh tuna fish for dinner.....what more does one want?
Ormos Navarinou is home to the famous BATTLE OF NAVARINON, where the Turkish fleet was totally destroyed by a combined French/English/Russian effort in the early 19th century.
The town of Pylos is a lovely spot, with a pretty square shaded by huge old plane trees, cafes galore, surrounding a memorial to the three famous Admirals. As the town was partly built by the French after the Battle, one can still see some elegant buildings amongst the lush vegetation of bananas, palms, jasmine and oleanders.
Just for a couple of nights, we are on the town quay 'alongside' doing the usual 'shop up', wifi etc. Last night in a local taverna, we ate one of our 'best ever' meals in Greece....!! A very pleasant surprise!
Above photo ....Sunset tonight from 'Pacific Pearl' on the town quay at Pilos....pas mal!
Heading off very early tomorrow morning....hopingly to Zakinthos.
