Sorry, more One Tree Bay photos, where we are now anchored.....but just look at the marvelous views, looking east, over to the magnificent mountain range. Not forgetting the playful goats ashore, and the pristine clear waters....only 2 boats at anchor....can't be bad!
Forgot .....also the flocks of birds and even fish swimming around the boat. As you can imagine, we are really looking forward to sailing again after the long winter months in the marina.
'Pacific Pearl' is all ready and raring to go after the annual underwater maintenance works carried out recently........visit.... http://oyster48lightwaveforsale.weebly.com Then on Monday we will head south through the (now well marked) Lefkas channel into cleaner blue waters in order to start rinsing and then running our Spectra watermaker system....waters definitely not clean enough here inside the Gulf! It is also possible we may have a visit soon re the sale, so plan to remain in the area for the time being....who knows? As each year around my birthday, we hired a car for a few days to 'play tourist', then stock up in preparation for our departure, which will be this coming Thursday, with haul out booked at Ionian Marine over in Preveza on the 31st March. The weather was sunny and warm for our little trip over to the enchanting inland town of Ioannina, where we enjoyed a leisurely late afternoon aperitif overlooking the beautiful lake surrounded by towering peaks (still snowcapped). For dinner we sampled the interesting Asian cuisine at the Bonzai restaurant. Debbie & Jeremy, our delightful English neighbors on S/Y 'Nita' recommended also our accommodation ....very special, amazingly comfortable, tastefully decorated, immaculately clean, friendly, delicious breakfast.....perfect! ITS KALE has only 7 beautiful rooms and is conveniently situated inside the castle walls. www.itskale-hotel.gr The following day we decided to throw in a little bit of culture and visited the well preserved amphitheater at DODONI ...so pleased that we did, as situated in a gorgeous setting with southerly views over to the snowy mountains nearby. Well worth the short detour...memorable. Next stop was back to the coast to picturesque PARGA for delicious coffees...we have visited by boat but had never been ashore...must be packed with tourists during the high season ...one can understand why! Back in Lefkas, our bright blue hire car took us up a windy narrow 'road' into the local spectacular mountains to a height of 1030 metres where we visited the small white chapel Ilias...again well worth the effort as the 360 degree views are absolutely stunning! Such an interesting island....do visit! Fabulous beaches, spectacular scenery, tiny quaint mountain villages and of course the usual tourist sites! Then to finish off our short break, we had the pleasure to welcome our Australian friends Angela and John onboard for more birthday drinkies, as John's birthday also! S/Y AMZER ZO.. We did not realise that it was Greek Independence Day last Saturday....Bruno headed over to the weekly market with his shopping trolley...no market, no nothing...the town as completely closed for the holiday! Enjoy the slideshow below of our tripping around..... As Barney's 'parents' are absent for a short period, he decided that we were the next best thing! Admittedly we are thoroughly loving his company....this cat needs people.... he adores all the attention we are offering!! As one can see, he certainly looks comfortable 'chez nous'! Happy to have visited family and friends (see slideshow below), sorted a few admin issues, medical controls for both, etc.. Pity no photos from our vist to Bruno's brother Christian, and his wife Catherine. BUT we are also very happy to return to 'Pacific Pearl' safely berthed in Lefkas Marina, Greece. Mostly the weather in France was bitterly cold, with little rain...we are in the middle of Winter! But, unfortunately, both of us did return with a nasty virus picked up along the way...too many people out there! Therefore we are keeping very low key, well rugged up in the warmth, trying to recuperate as quickly as possible. Now it is time to return seriously to 'boating mode' in preparation for our annual underwater maintenance. PARIS BY NIGHT.....
What a great start to the nouvelle annee....super calm cold conditions. We managed a very long walk around the lagoon .....11+ kilometres!! Flamingos, pelicans, many different species of herons, not forgetting the ducks and other water birds....very enjoyable. Reminds us of the lagoons in the Camargue region of France which we know so well. La vie est belle! LOCAL BAND ADDING AMBIANCE TO THE NEW YEAR FESTIVITES.... Our adorable CHABLIS....thank you Pascale and Pierre for being such wonderful adoptive parents....we were really so fortunate that you came along just at the right time.
31st December 2016...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY WONDERFUL HUSBAND
(photo of us summer 2015) KRONYA POLA.....BON ANNIVERSAIRE! Here in Lefkas, Greece, we are experiencing extremely cold north easterlies, which has dropped the temperature dramatically....Bbrrrrr! Thankfully the sun is shining... Card photo....Meganisi, October 2016. Bruno and I had a lovely quiet day just the two of us....finishing off with a delicious dinner and a nicely chilled bottle of prosecco! A longish 3 hrs walk (including a coffee stop) out to the windmills at Milos Beach.... Very calm, not a breath of wind, but cloudy, perfect for walking. Today, Boxing Day is back to brilliant sunshine...strong winds announced for the next day or two. We therefore took full advantage to enjoy a lazy day reading in the warmth of our sunny cockpit. Thanks so much Ebony, for sending lots of your Brisbane Xmas photos...
