We reached the north of Thasos after an uneventful sail from Limnos. Fortunately stronger southerlies pushed us rapidly up the east side of this lush green pine clad island, passing by beautiful long sandy beaches attracting tourists from many countries, especially Bulgaria, Slovenia, Russia and Serbia etc..
Apart from the tourist industry, Thasos marble is world renowned...we saw several open mining excavations...in fact the island is a round lump of marble apparently!
The weather predictions were spot on! 2 days of rain, especially the second day when it just poured all day..we did not even leave the boat, even though alongside in Nea Limani...however, Pacific Pearl is well rinced, hopingly the rain washed away more of the Saharian sand from the riggings and mast!
We had a problem with our Wind internet connexion, so decided to pop over to Kavala, just 16 n miles. After 2 hours in the local office, they discovered that the problem was caused by an error at the Agios Nikolaos branch, where we organized the contract. Bref, frustrating...but all working again!
Once we tire of the big city life, we will return to Thasos to discover this beautiful island.
