Happy to see them again for drinkies last evening in Preveza after our relaunching.
LORNA AND SIMON, our dear lovely friends from NZ , came over for dinner when we were anchored down in Vlikho back in April. Happy to see them again for drinkies last evening in Preveza after our relaunching.

PREPARING TO RELAUNCH...THE IONION MARINE BOATYARD STAFF WERE EXTREMELY EFFICIENT, FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL...WE WOULD MOST CERTAINLY RETURN AGAIN ONE DAY IF IN THE AREA, WITHOUT HESITATION.
BY THE WAY, THE H CUP RUGBY FINAL WAS SENSATIONAL....BRAVO TO THE FRENCH TOULON TEAM... JONNY WILKINSON...AN ICON! VUE FROM OUR PERCHED COCKPIT AT APERITIF TIME..LOOKING TOWARDS PREVEZA TOWN FROM IONIAN BOATYARD. FIRST COAT OF ANTI FOULING ...TODAY WE FINISHED THE SECOND..OOFF!
NOT MUCH FUN LIVING UP ON THE HIGH... Above...My extremely fit and spritely 85 year old Auntie Joan, who lives in Victoria Australia....below is a sketch of her amazing S/Y 'MEERMIN' which she owned and sailed for such a long time in the Med. many years ago ..Joan has incredible tales to tell of that period.
My brother John visited her recently and kindly sent me the photos. My uncle Colin, now 86, lives in Vanuatu, in the southern Pacific Ocean...... also has a sailing yacht on a permanent mooring in the beautiful turquoise waters of the lagoon.. SAILING DEFINITELY RUNS IN THE FAMILY! Well, we did hope to avoid hauling out this year, but unfortunately, not possible.....far too dirty underneath!......5 months in the water not moving during Winter!
Therefore, here we are tonight on the hard at Ionian boatyard.....just for 5 days, we hope? Not much fun living up in the air....... Surprise to find our friends, Angie and Keith here also...we will watch the H Cup Rugby final together on Saturday.... Spending a few days here in Vliho, near Nidhri....the local friendly yacht club kindly accepted to receive our courrier, which has arrived safely. Many more yachts out and about ....the season has begun!
Such a relief to know that my Mum is now out of hospital...Ozcare thankfully are arranging many more hours home help and personal assistance, which will be more and more necessary as time goes by. Mother's Day in Australia on Sunday, so I hope Kath receives the flowers I organised via internet...plus I will be calling her via Skype of course. Her broken pelvis is going to take a long time to heal...patience. Our weather has FINALLY improved and today is very warm....so we have installed our sun awnings for the first time this season.... Have also had some lovely sailing conditions...all going well on Pacific Pearl.....caught up with SHAMAL...Ann and Alec from New Zealand who wintered in Sicily, then Lefkas, like us....Thank you for the BEST EVER cappuccino! Tuesday 13th April....HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all our wonderful Mums last Sunday, in Australia anyway...I had a long Skype call with mine, who could actually hear me ok. sounded bright enough, and happy to be back at home...Plus my flowers arrived as ordered! Thanks to 123fleurs.com These Ionian islands are really so beautiful and enchanting.....luxuriant and green, full of fragrant wild flowers at the moment, covered in evergreen Cypress, pine, elm, not forgetting the pale silvery green olive trees, must be millions of them, also in full flower at this time of the year. Not surprising with the amount of rain that falls in the winter! A complete contrast to the 'travel brochure' Greece of sunbaked dry craggy rocky islands with clusters of dazzling whitewashed cube houses and chapels, Mediterranean blue painted domes, doors and trimmings.....which one finds throughout the Cyclade islands in the Aegean sea. But Greece is full of contrasts...even has snow covered mountains where one can ski at very reasonable prices. Bruno has the Top 14 rugby semis to watch this weekend...so must find excellent wifi connexion! We hired a car in Nidhri yesterday, 25 euros, not bad including petrol and everything! with Avis! Pacific Pearl is now well stocked after visiting the supermarkets in Lefkada, including Lidl of course, gas bottles, wine, the works....then we had just enough time left to enjoy a lovely drive just down to Sivota to check out the mooring possibilities there.... until next blog ....hi to you all...if you want to visit us, no problem, just ask! I am into flower picking at the moment .....more Spring flowers just for our pleasure... had a long leisurely walk this morning to stretch our legs.
Well, our anchorage in Corfu was not very comfortable at all, so had to lift up and sail across to the mainland coast which was more protected.. Anchored all alone in the big bay here at Plataria, a small sleepy village, small port....very tranquille. BUT I can pick up a wifi from a cafe opposite, after having a cappucino there this am to obtain the code. Reception on the boat not bad at all, considering we are quite a distance out!!P Possibly stay here for this weekend as southerlies announced, then decide where to go on Monday. Sunday am....will head south tomorrow as NW announced, possibly to the Parga area where there are a few possibilities at this time of the year. We have had SO much rain....!! |
