Yesterday, the huge dark blue 'Queen Elisabeth 2' was also 'in town' with it's thousands of tourists.....!!! Incredibly enormous...absolutely frightening! DUBROVNIK is THE MOST visited site in CROATIA, so you can imagine how busy it is, even at this time of the year. However, Bruno and I have made the most of our two full days here, walking the famous City WALLS, nearly 2 kilometres, UP & DOWN!! .... a definite MUST DO! Also the tiny paved back streets, exploring to our heart's content. Unforgettable images! We obviously did not visit all the Museums and Churches, but saw most of the Landmarks and the main Essentials. Then on leaving, we motored past Lokrum Island and the outside walls facing the sea, for a different angle. PLEASE GO TO 'photos' page for a Dubrovnik 'slideshow'....21st September....BON ANNIVERSAIRE, Mlle MANON......Have a great day for your 10 ans! Thinking of you, lots of bisouxxxxxxx!
Not all smooth sailing....between BRAC and HVAR, this one above gave us an enormous storm with thunder, lightening...THE WORKS! and 40 knots of wind from 0 knots! .....then we had between 30 - 40 knots for at least 90 minutes ....however, thankfully the day finished off beautifully to dry us out, as rain was torrential....doesn't Bruno look a happy man?? Below....Anchored off CIOVO, near Split....The night before, this one gave us a huge electrical storm with gusts to 30 knots, but we were well dug in with 70 metres of chain holding us secure.....boat has certainly been well rinced to say the least.....never a dull moment!!
BON ANNIVERSAIRE! chère Carmen...BRAVO pour tes 81 ans!
We cannot be with you in France to celebrate ensemble, but you are constantly in our thoughts! Hugs and kisses xx Picturesque PRIMOSTEN, along the coast, north of Split...built on a peninsula with the church, as usual, dominating the old town. We were in good company as you can see, a beautiful blue Northwind, maybe? From there we had a fantastic sail across to the mountainous island of VIS, even put up the spi, a rare occasion! In KOMIZA, we actually picked up a mooring buoy for one night, a very rare occasion for us...28 euros. Could have been worse! (very deep anchorage, rocky!)
The old old town of KOMIZA, with it's stone buildings and lovely churches, is set in a very spectacular setting, facing the deep sapphire blue sea and surrounded by high green mountains, covered in thick pine, with vineyards everywhere on the gentler lower slopes. We didn't visit the actual town of VIS along the north, but spent another night around the islands on the south east coast. Not an easy job to find a secure bay, as many boats, and still rather deep ...finally dropped the anchor in 12 metres! 'AU REVOIR' dear friends,Vivienne and Alistair, 'Largo Star' .... now it is your turn to enjoy Venice....'amusez vous bien'! Finally I have a decent internet connexion, so will try to catch up! On the go again, this time heading south....we have had some wonderful sailing conditions, with following winds, mostly just short distances between these delightful islands. Having fun locating different well sheltered anchorages in idyllic surroundings (non paying!).... not so difficult as there are really so many to choose from. We just don't pick up any buoys, not necessary, and would work out far too expensive anyway! After saying 'bye bye' to 'Largo Star' in Soline Bay up in Istria, we have anchored off UNIJE, LOSINJ, ILOVIK, OLIB, MOLAT, UGLJAN, ZUT and tonight we are securely anchored in 3.5metres, just south of the town of PASMAN. Blowing 18 - 20+ knots, but we are well dug in & can swing, as all alone!! (May stay a couple of nights as perfect internet ... need to catch up and Skype!) After a couple of spectacular electrical storms recently, our weather is gorgeous, cooler at night, but pity, for swimming, water is also fresher! Plus the summer haze has fortunately disappeared, so we have amazing visibility, a wonderful lumière with blue blue skies, & very few clouds. Just hope it continues ........ |
