This important port is very active with ferries, tugs and huge fishing trawlers, with approx. 20 permanent local yachts, some used for chartering. There are plans to create a 'marina' here with floating pontoons, but no activity as yet...!!
We certainly have the feeling that we are 'en vacances'....
For 3 nights, we were moored amongst the charter boats, but after this long weekend, they are all returning, so we have been moved over by the yacht club....with lots of help. I must say that the friendly locals have been just wonderful, assisting us as much as they can. Very much appreciated!
As you can see by the photos above, we have been playing tourist seriously visiting the historical monuments... from our new mooring, we have perfect views over to the fortress and old town, Panagia....full moon tonight!
Such a lot to visit in this dynamic, vibrant bustling city... cafes, ouzo bars and tavernas buzzing with activity until the early hours of the morning..modern boutiques, even Marks & Spencers, Zara etc..Such a pleasure also to hop off the boat to enjoy an icecream for dessert! Yummy!
Fantastic market on Saturdays...absolutely everything, and certainly very reasonably priced...I bought a lovely basilic plant for 2.50 euros, an enormous quantity of strawberries for 1.50 euros etc etc....
As in many Greek cities, the more modern 'old' buildings are not particularly attractive.
Fortunately tidy clean parcs exist with huge shady plane trees, acacias and eucalyptus ...palm trees line the promenades with their well presented flowery terraces.
In a few days, it will be necessary to move on after restocking...in search of tranquil anchorages!
Admittedly, this pleasant town is one of these places that grows on you the more you discover.
