These past weeks have been well over the 20 degrees, light breezes...several locals are in swimming every day off the small beach opposite our boat.....tempting, but far too cold for me!
I continue to enjoy working out at the local gym just a short walk from the marina....either joining the testing exercise classes or using the huge choice of equipment.
The live aboards are all wearing shorts, working outside and taking advantage of the summer ambiance in all senses of the word.....not bad for February!!
However, today the north westerly winds are howling up to 42 knots, settling between 30 - 40. Then dropping slightly before we hear the gusts returning with force. The weather man says it should blow itself out by tomorrow .....we hope so as very uncomfortable and certainly cooler!! But the sunshine is still with us!
Bruno and I hired a small car last week to visit Heraklion, finding the local 'bricolage' shops, stocking up at Lidl etc...George, the friendly owner of Club Cars, gives us all in the marina a reasonable price at 25 euros per day, which decreases if one keeps the car for a longer period....nice, very clean recent cars...which is not always the case elsewhere!
As it was a beautiful day, we decided to return via the small turning roads through the spectacular mountains and the Lassithi Plateau with it's ancient windmills...absolutely amazing views in all directions, arriving back to Agios Nikolaos on the smallest road I could find. All in all a great day!
Bruno is happy, as on the weekends there is plenty of rugby to watch, what with the 6 nations full on at the moment, the French Top 14 and the European Cup (Heinekin Cup).
