As we decided relatively late in the morning to depart, we were happy to finally anchor in the small bay of Ormos Kastri (south east EVIA) with the dark night upon us...protected from the KAFIREAS Strait swells, we slept so well with the diminishing winds.
The last time we passed by here in 2012, the surroundings of the bay were burnt out and still smouldering.....now thankfully regrown...still just a few houses and a church, & a few local fisherman.
A short hop across the Strait, (being extra careful as a continual stream of cargos & tankers motoring up or down this busy stretch of water) is the big mountainous island of Andros....we decided to anchor off the attractive blue & white (many red roofs) Cycladic village of BATSI.... still full tourist season here, too much for us! Although the icecream last night was mouthwatering.
Plus, glorious to be anchored in these turquoise waters with a shallow clear sandy bottom.....!!
After a few cooler days last week with the last meltemi, the temperatures have now soared again with calm conditions, in fact very steamy!
BUT, as from tomorrow night, the Meltemi will return again in full swing for possibly 5-7 days!
Therefore, in the am. we will sail with the beginning of these winds directly down to Finikas, on the south coast of SIROS....a large bay which appears to be a perfect anchorage in strong winds....we hope so anyway!!
